Traffic Police Rural Kashmir in its endeavor to enforce Motor Vehicle Act/Traffic Rules started a holistic drive against traffic violators during the month of May- 2018. The drive has been intensified in view of the quantum of the violations which not only impede the free flow of traffic but also creates inconvenience to both the commuters as well as the pedestrians, the spokesman in a statement said.

The Traffic Rural Kashmir during this period challaned a large number of private/commercial vehicles including heavy motor vehicles besides many vehicles were also seized. During the month of May 2018, a total of 24166 vehicles were challaned for different traffic violations including over speeding, overloading, overcharging, use of music systems and pressure horns etc.  During the drive, people were counseled also & were asked to follow traffic rules, the spokesman said.

“Out of 24166 vehicles challaned, 5170 were against Non Wearing of Seat Belts, 2709 Without DL, 4396 were against non wearing of uniform, 546 violators were booked under the offence of Overloading, 487 for not wearing of Crash Helmets, 256 for triple riding, 242 against Use of Mobile Phone/Dangerous Driving among other offences as well as 248 vehicles were seized also. Besides a fine to the tune of Rs. 37,09,123/= was collected from the violators w.e.f. 01, May  2018 to 31 May 2018,” he added.

“The general public is requested that they should follow traffic rules and be part of the endeavor of traffic police to make commuting on roads safer. Besides, parents are requested, not to allow their young wards to drive two-wheelers without wearing Crash Helmets and proper documentation. Moreover, the general public/passengers are requested that they should communicate to the undersigned on Tel. No.9419007686 and Traffic Control Unit Kashmir on Tel No 2485396 & 2450022 whenever they come across any traffic violation,” the spokesman in a statement said.
