SRINAGAR: The Special Winter School (Refresher Course), organised by UGC-Human Resource Development Centre, concluded at University of Kashmir.
Prof Mushtaq A. Siddiqi, Vice-Chancellor, Islamic University of Science and Technology was the Chief Guest at the valedictory function and Prof Mohiuddin Sangmi, Director UGC-HRDC presided over it. Course Coordinator, Dr Mohammad Ishaq Geer delineated the aims and objectives of the three-week-long programme.
The course was attended by 41 faculty members from various colleges and universities across India while 31 noted Resource Persons from various universities deliberated upon several aspects related to the main theme: “Towards excellence in higher education.”
In his address, Prof Siddiqi, who distributed certificates among participants, emphasized that colleges and universities have to redesign and redefine their role in contemporary times instead of continuing with redundant models. He urged higher educational institutions to undertake operational research to find out whether goals and targets of educational policies have been achieved or there is a need to redesign curricula.
Prof Sangmi urged participants to think collectively to make educational objectives in consonance with social objectives. Dr Geer later delivered vote of thanks and said considerable challenges remain in terms of employability and relevance, quality and excellence of the higher education system.
