Protests erupted in Mattan Chowk of Islamabad town after an argument between police and traders over the issue of parking of a vehicle on the road aggravated leading to outbreak of clashes and spontaneous shutdown.

The police were clearing jam on the road and asked a shopkeeper to lift his vehicle from the road but he refused which led to a heated argument between the shopkeeper and police, witnesses said.

The traders assembled at the spot and staged a protest demonstration against police. They were later joined by the local youth and clashes broke out.

The youth pelted stones on police men who retorted with firing teargas shells.

The clashes spread over a stretch from Mattan chowk to Lal Chowk of the town. The clashes triggered a partial shutdown in the town amidst chaos.
