Sporting Spirit Soars as Kabaddi and Cricket Tournaments Electrify Kashmir 

   

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir is abuzz with sporting fervour as the Department of Youth Services and Sports successfully organised high-octane kabaddi and cricket tournaments across various districts, showcasing exceptional talent and promoting a vibrant sports culture among the youth.

At Pahalgam in Anantnag, the Inter-District Provincial Level Kabaddi Tournament for All Age Group Girls concluded on a high note after eight days of spirited competition. The event, set against the scenic backdrop of the tourist destination, witnessed intense matches in the U-14, U-17, and U-19 categories. Despite intermittent rain, the championship was conducted seamlessly, reflecting the tireless efforts of the department’s field staff.

Anantnag district emerged as a dominant force in kabaddi, winning the U-14 and U-17 titles, with Bandipora finishing runners-up in both categories. Budgam secured third place in the U-14 event, while Kupwara finished third in the U-17 category. In the U-19 category, Bandipora girls delivered a commanding performance to lift the title, defeating Pulwama, who finished second, while Srinagar secured the third spot. Bandipora, notably, qualified for all three finals, underlining its growing prominence in the sport.

The District Youth Services and Sports Officer of Anantnag congratulated all the participating teams and said that such tournaments play a vital role in instilling discipline, confidence, and sportsmanship among young athletes. Special appreciation was extended to the Physical Education field staff for their dedication, which contributed to the success of the event.

Meanwhile, cricket fever has gripped Kupwara, where the District Level U-19 Boys’ Cricket Competition has reached its climax. Organised under the annual sports calendar, the tournament has drawn enthusiastic crowds and delivered thrilling contests. Kupwara and Handwara zones have secured their places in the grand finale after battling through a series of close encounters.

The much-anticipated final, set to be played at the Galizoo Cricket Stadium, is expected to be a high-voltage contest. Players are vying not only for district-level honours but also for a spot in the team that will represent Kupwara in the upcoming Provincial Level Competitions. The In-Charge Activities of the District Youth Services and Sports Office in Kupwara reiterated the department’s commitment to nurturing young sporting talent and providing them platforms to excel at higher levels, calling the final a celebration of Kupwara’s rich cricketing tradition.
