Sports Council starts registrations for rural sports in JK; Parra assures support

After the completion of trainings and coaching camps under Khelo India in almost every district of Jammu and Kashmir, Sports council is now registering the athletes, sports persons from rural areas for block level; inter district and district level competitions under Khelo India.

More than 450 registrations were made in Nud block of the Samba District and following by Ghagwal block, where exact numbers of registrations are yet to be disclosed by the authorities.

Samba district has 9 blocks and more than 3200 registrations have to be made depending upon the population of each block. After completion of registrations for the rural sports from blocks of the each district, the competition at block level, inter district and district for the various disciplines will be held. The final State team selected will play the nationals thereof.

A spokesperson of the sports council said that the council is trying best to promote sports at grass- root level and ensure a maximum participation of sports persons and enthusiastic youth. “Rural Sports for different sports disciplines will choose the best talent of the state.”

The sole motive of the Sports Council is to promote and propagate the culture of sports among the youth and to encourage the budding sportspersons in the State and such initiatives will continue in future also, he said.

The trainees and the players for the competitions will be selected on tests and is being screened by the empowered committee’s of the respective districts.

Secretary Sports Council, Waheed Ur Rehman Parra assured every possible support to the sportspersons for the competitions at National and International levels, empowerment and also sought ideas, proposals for the overall development and reviving of sports culture in the state.
