Advisor to Chief Minister, Prof Amitabh Mattoo on Thursday said J&K Sports Council is in process of replicating Australian Sports model to nourish various sports in the State.

Prof. Mattoo was chairing a high level meeting with the delegates from Deaken University Australia at SKICC on perspective planning in sports, sports management, sports policy and sports legislation.

The agenda of the meeting was to take Sports arena in the State as an industry so that it will involve people from all communities within the State.

“Our Chief Minister is personally focused to empower the youth in the State of Jammu and Kashmir and sports have already made a remarkable progress in the State as youth are participating in the various sports events,” Prof Mattoo said.

During the meeting it was decided that Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council will sign MoU with the Deakin University Australia, which will help the JK Sports in formulating policy of sports, develop and upgradation of sports management and coaching and training of sports personnel and coaches.

Secretary Sports Council, Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra informed the meeting that Sports Council which is an autonomous body has worked on ground and collected feedback from different communities from rural and urban areas about the promotion of sports as an industry in the state. He said that with the help of Deakin University, Sports Council will come up with a vision Document.

He also said that presently sports council has identified 200 villages where communities have been involved for the promotion of different sports. “The aim of this program is to get support and expert advice in preparing a draft of State Sports Policy,” he said.
