The Srinagar-Jammu highway remains closed for the third consecutive day, Thursday as the valleyites are facing every sort of problems in the freezing cold conditions.

Official sources said that the Highway is closed and if the weather remains the same traffic may be allowed to ply later in the day.

People in the summer capital are facing by the hands of traders who according to the consumers have dumped essential commodities and are selling only against heavy prices. “We are unable to get meat, chicken, eggs etc, shopkeepers say that they have no stock,” Abdullah Dar of Rajbagh told Kashmir Life.

Valley is also facing tremendous shortage of electricity and the areas where it has been restored only when people came on roads to protest, its voltage is very low. “The electric bulb is hardly seen when we are bestowed by power supply,” Abdullah added.

Reports suggest that not only Srinagar but the people living in villages and the towns are also suffering from shortage of power supply and other essentials while the link roads are still closed due to snow which has now freed.

Pertinently, the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah yesterday reached Srinagar and directed the concerned authorities to restore the supply of essential commodities.
