SRINAGAR: In Hazratbal, Srinagar, a couple was attacked by an unidentified masked man on Wednesday morning. The wife sustained serious injuries.
Media reports said that the incident took place around 9 a.m. at the residence of Ghulam Rasool Khan.
“The attack began when my wife, who was making tea in the kitchen was suddenly assaulted. I was sleeping when I heard my wife screaming,” he said. “I rushed to the kitchen and saw an unknown man attacking her. When I intervened, he turned on me, biting my hands and punching my face several times.”
Khan described the assailant as a masked non-local, making identification difficult. His wife, wearing two gold bangles, suffered severe injuries. “She was attacked with a sharp object on her throat and wrist. Her blood was all over the floor,” Khan added. She was later taken to SKIMS hospital for treatment.
He said that he chased the attacker as he tried to flee. Neighbours, hearing the commotion, intervened and managed to apprehend the intruder outside the house. “I heard cries from the house and ran inside,” said a neighbour. “The woman was lying in a pool of blood. I picked up a weapon from the spot to protect myself and others.”
The police were called and arrested the attacker.
