SRINAGAR: Authorities have launched a large-scale rescue operation to locate persons who drowned in the River Jhelum after a boat capsized here on Tuesday morning.

An official involved in the ongoing operation said that a widescale rescue operation is underway to locate the missing persons.

“In total, four boats of SDRF, two boats of River police, one each of F&ES, NDRF, four Marcos divers, and two SDRF divers are part of the operation ongoing since this morning,” the official said.

Notably, six persons have been declared dead, five rescued and undergoing treatment, and three others are still reported missing after a boat capsized in the River Jhelum near Gandabal Batwara in Srinagar this morning. (GNS)
