Srinagar Freezes at -4.4°C Amid Kashmir Cold Wave

   

SRINAGAR: The Kashmir region experienced extremely cold temperatures on Thursday. Srinagar recorded a low of -4.4°C, while Qazigund and Pahalgam reported even colder conditions at -6.2°C and -10.4°C, respectively.

Kupwara saw a minimum temperature of -4.6°C, and Kokernag recorded -5.6°C. Gulmarg, a popular tourist destination, registered -9.6°C, with nearby Sonamarg close behind at -9.4°C. Among the coldest spots, Shopian recorded -9.9°C, and Larnoo reported an icy -11.6°C. Other notable figures include Anantnag and Kulgam, both at -8.4°C, and Khudwani at -7.6°C.

In the Jammu region, temperatures were milder compared to Kashmir but still cold in several areas. Jammu city recorded a minimum of 5.5°C, while Banihal and Batote registered 3.8°C and 3.3°C, respectively. Katra, a significant pilgrimage site, noted 6.4°C, while Bhaderwah dipped slightly below freezing at -0.2°C. Padder recorded -5.1°C, while Kathua experienced the warmest conditions in the region at 6.5°C. Other areas, including Reasi, Udhampur, and Rajouri, reported lows between 2.1°C and 3.5°C.

The Ladakh region continues to face severe cold. Leh recorded a biting -13.3°C, while Kargil plunged further to -14.6°C. Drass, known as one of the coldest inhabited places on Earth, reported a frigid -24.8°C, marking the lowest temperature in the region.
