SRINAGAR: In a shocking incident, Waseem Raja, son of Ali Mohd Malla and a resident of Noorbagh, who was currently serving as an Imam at Masjid Aisha Malikaagun, has been arrested by Srinagar Police for allegedly committing an unnatural sexual offense against a 9-year-old child.
The arrest came following the registration of FIR 30/2023 under sections 377 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections 5 and 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act at Maharaj Gunj Police Station.
Srinagar Police took to Twitter to announce the arrest, stating, “One Waseem Raja S/o Ali Mohd Malla R/o Noorbagh presently working as Imaam at Masjid Aisha Malikaagun arrested for committing unnatural sexual offence on a 9-year-old child. FIR 30/2023 under sections 377 of IPC and 5, 6 of POCSO Act registered in Maharaj Gunj PS.”
The accused is currently in police custody, and further legal proceedings will follow as the case progresses.
