In view of fresh snowfall on upper reaches of valley, the Srinagar-Jammu highway was closed on Monday morning.

“The highway has been closed for vehicular traffic because of snowfall in Banihal. It is snowing at present in there. Road clearance operation would start once snowfall stops,” an official of Border Roads Organisation said.

Reports said many vehicles carrying passengers and goods have been stranded on the highway.

An adverse weather advisory issued by a local MET office, had said that medium to heavy snowfall is expected from February 4 to February 7. The report further added that snowfall especially in the Pir Panjal Mountain Range in the Valley can disrupt air and surface transport.
