Traffic on the Jammu-Srinagar highway was suspended on Sunday after being blocked by multiple landslides triggered by heavy rains at several places, an official said.

The nearly 270-km Jammu-Srinagar highway was blocked by landslides at Ramsoo and Kheri in Udhampur district, he said.

“This precaution has been taken keeping the safety of the travellers in mind,” the official added.

Men and machinery have been pressed into service to restore the movement of traffic on the highway, he said.

Official sources said that hundreds of vehicles, including trucks, are stranded at different places on the highway.
