No let up in rains lashing valley, the highway connecting Kashmir to outer world remains closed for second consecutive day. The ‘famous’ weather man of Kashmir had predicted improvement in climatic conditions from today, however.

An official said that due to the incessant rains, landslides hit the Srinagar-Jammu highway which forced authorities to close down the road.

Due to closure of the road, the Hindu pilgrimage – Amarnath Yatra – too was suspended since Sunday early morning and no Yatri was allowed to move towards Cave neither from Pahalgam side nor Sonamarg. Yatra started on July 12 and so far, over 1.5 Lakh Yatris visited the Cave in deep mountains of South Kashmir.

On Sunday afternoon, two persons of a Gujjar family in Ardoo, upper reaches of Phalgam, died when hit by a cloudburst. Their flock too drowned.

The continuous rains, also resulted in closure of alternative Mughal road when landslides hit the route at several places. The authorities are on job clearing this route as government has ordered officials of procuring supplies from Mughal road if Srinagar-Jammu highway remains closed on the eve of Eid-Ul-Fitr.
