SRINAGAR: The 434-km strategic Srinagar-Leh highway, connecting the Ladakh region with Kashmir valley, has been temporarily closed for vehicular traffic due to fresh spell of snowfall and slippery road conditions. Hundreds of vehicles are stranded at both sides of the highway.

“Due to fresh spell of snowfall, particularly at Sonamarg, Zojila, Meenmarg and Drass, the second coldest place in the world after Siberia, traffic on the highway, linking Ladakh region with Kashmir, was suspended on Monday. No vehicle was allowed from either side,” a traffic police official said.

Reports said Meenmarg received 4 inches, Drass 5 inches and Zero Point received around 2 inches of fresh Snow while rains

The 434-km Srinagar-Leh highway has been temporarily closed due to fresh snowfall at Meenmarg. “Traffic was temporarily suspended on the highway after fresh snow caused slippery conditions,” said an official.
