Police said the action followed a written complaint filed by Nazir Ahmed War, in charge of the Centralised ATM Department of Jammu and Kashmir Bank, after repeated incidents of ATM tampering were reported at the JVC ATM kiosk. Bemina Police Station subsequently registered FIR No. 116/2025 under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

A special trap team was constituted jointly by Srinagar Police and the ATM Department. Officials said the accused, identified as Irfan Ahmad Mir of Sanzipora Mawar in Handwara, was caught red-handed while attempting to damage the ATM.

During the search, police seized 12 ATM cards belonging to various banks and an iPhone allegedly used to facilitate the fraud. The suspect was taken into custody.

Police said the investigation is underway to verify the ownership of the seized cards and to ascertain whether the accused is linked to a wider network. Further arrests have not been ruled out.

Srinagar Police urged citizens to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious activity or malfunctioning of ATMs to the nearest police station.
