SRINAGAR: Srinagar Police on Friday claimed to have solved a major theft case by recovering stolen property worth around Rs 17.5 lakh, including gold ornaments, cash, three iPhones and a motorcycle, while arresting one accused and identifying two juveniles allegedly involved in the crime.
The case was registered at Police Station Rainawari under FIR No. 35/2026 after a complaint by Mohd Amin Changa of Changa Mohalla, Mir Behri, alleging theft at his residence.
During the investigation, police identified and arrested Mohd Hussain Latoo, a resident of Akhoon Mohalla, Mir Behri, Rainawari. Police said his involvement in the theft came to light during the probe, and he had allegedly committed the crime along with two associates, both of whom were found to be juveniles.
Based on the accused’s disclosure, the investigating team recovered gold ornaments worth nearly Rs 12 lakh and cash amounting to Rs 2.2 lakh.
Police said further investigation revealed that part of the stolen money had been used to purchase three iPhones and a motorcycle, valued collectively at around Rs 3.5 lakh, which were also recovered.
The recovered property includes two gold bangles, eight gold rings, a gold necklace, a gold pendant set, two large earring sets, one small earring set, a pair of gold jhumkas, a wristwatch, Rs 2.2 lakh in cash, three iPhones and a motorcycle.
According to police, the total value of the recovered stolen property is estimated at approximately Rs 17.5 lakh.
Police said further investigation is underway and additional recoveries are expected. Authorities also appealed to the public to report any suspicious activity or criminal incidents to the nearest police station.
