Ahead of Chillai Kalan, the harshest 40 days of winter, Srinagar Tuesday witnessed the coldest night of the season so far with mercury reeling at minus 5.5 degrees Celsius, while Leh froze at minus 14 degrees Celsius.

The Dal Lake has frozen partially, while frozen water taps and slippery roads were causing inconvenience to the residents.

Officials in MeT department said that “Weather is likely to remain dry with clear night sky during the next 24 hours signifying a further dip in the night temperatures across the state.

The minimum temperature was recorded minus 6.2 in Pahalgam and minus 3.0 in Gulmarg.
