SRINAGAR: As a step forward in enhancing the commute in Srinagar City, the Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL) is set to build ultra-modern bus stops equipped with amenities to inform passengers about smart city bus movement in the city.
The bus stops will be built using modern technology, with the city set to see the addition of 360 ultra-modern bus stops across Srinagar.
Sharing details about the project, Suhaib Naqshbandi, Operating Managing Director, Smart City E-Buses Srinagar said that the smart city initiative plans to construct 360 advanced bus stops in Srinagar City using enhanced modern technology.
“These ultra-modern bus stops will feature all essential amenities and provide real-time information about the departure and arrival of buses. The new bus stops will include a Passenger Information System (PIS) that displays the real-time location of smart city buses. The bus stops will have monitors displaying real-time bus information and route maps for the city,” he explained.
Regarding the planning, the Managing Director stated that the locations for the bus stops have been identified based on a comprehensive public transport study and public demand.
He added that work on these bus stops is expected to commence next month, with ongoing surveys being conducted to finalise plans. Regarding the project cost, he mentioned, “We have not yet determined the total cost, but it will cover the construction of modern bus stops.”
The location for the first bus stop where work will begin has not yet been decided, but priority will be given to the existing 16 routes of smart buses. Most likely, MA Road at Lal Chowk might be the first site for execution.
It is worth mentioning that the Srinagar Smart City project includes a fleet of electric buses aimed at providing a modern public transportation system for Srinagar. These electric buses operate within Srinagar and connect it to other districts. (KNO)
