SRINAGAR: Traffic restrictions and diversions will be enforced on several roads in Srinagar on October 31 in view of the ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas and Run for Unity’ event scheduled to be held between the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) and the Botanical Garden, Srinagar.
According to an advisory issued by Srinagar Traffic Police on Friday, the event is expected to witness the participation of several VIPs and people from different walks of life. The restrictions have been put in place to facilitate the event and prevent traffic congestion.
Traffic movement on Boulevard Road between Lalit Ghat and Kralsangri will remain restricted from 8.30 am on October 31 until the conclusion of the programme.
Motorists travelling towards Nishat, Shalimar and Harwan have been advised to take the Dal Gate–Rainawari–Hazratbal route instead of Boulevard Road. Those coming from Harwan, Shalimar and Nishat towards Lal Chowk have been asked to use the Foreshore–Hazratbal route rather than Nishat-Boulevard Road.
Similarly, commuters from Gulab Bagh, Zakura, Naseembagh, Habbak and adjoining areas heading towards Lal Chowk have been advised to travel via Habak–Dargah–Khanyar instead of Foreshore Road.
The Traffic Police has identified the Police Golf Course, Royal Spring Golf Course, Jet Ski Point, Botanical Garden and Barista near Lalit Ghat as designated parking areas for participants.
Participants have been instructed to park their vehicles only at the designated locations, with roadside parking strictly prohibited. Vehicles found parked in violation of the directions will be towed away.
Students appearing in examinations have been advised to plan their journeys accordingly and use the prescribed routes to avoid delays and inconvenience.
The advisory further states that ambulances, fire tenders and other emergency medical services will be given priority and allowed to take the shortest available routes.
For assistance, commuters can contact the Srinagar Traffic Police Control Room at Room No. 103.
The Traffic Police has regretted the inconvenience the restrictions may cause to the general public.
