SRINAGAR: Srinagar traffic police announced on Monday the introduction of advanced integrated technology to address traffic violations in the city and improve traffic enforcement and surveillance management.

Muzaffar Ahmad Shah, Senior Superintendent of Police for City Traffic, stated that in addition to their existing speed radar guns, they have now integrated the device with a smart card connected to a tablet application.

“Our traffic violation monitoring has now adopted modern technology with the integrated use of speed radar guns equipped with 360° PTZ cameras,” said SSP Traffic Srinagar. He added that the device will be mobile and deployed wherever necessary.

The officer explained that the device is equipped with a smart card and offers various functionalities. “We can access live feeds directly at our control room,” he stated.

Shah highlighted that the technology represents an improved wireless version that captures violations with concrete evidence. “During this initial phase, the device will be mobile and not permanently fixed at any specific location. So far, it has shown promising results,” he further added.

During the trial phase, city traffic police conducted tests on the boulevard in Srinagar. A senior traffic official mentioned that the technology comes with predefined settings.

“These devices are not new to us. We already had speed radar guns or cameras, but now they have been integrated into a single vehicle. We call it a smart vehicle that detects a wide range of traffic violations, and all the feed will be sent to the control room,” the official explained. (KNO)
