SRINAGAR: An encounter raged on Saturday morning in Khanyar area of Srinagar district in which a top Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander was killed. An encounter took place in the Srinagar district after a gap of nearly two years.
The last gunfight in Srinagar was witnessed on September 15, 2022, in the Nowgam area, where two militants were killed. The sequence of encounters in recent years has demonstrated the ongoing security efforts and the challenges faced in Srinagar, once regarded as a terror-free zone.
Asked about the encounter at Khanyar area of Srinagar after a long gap, IGP Kashmir V K Birdi said that inputs about movement of militants keep on coming. “Today’s gunfight at Khanyar is a significant achievement,” the IGP said.
