SRINAGAR: The Srinagar Development Authority (SDA) has taken a significant stride towards urban development with the successful allotment of 428 residential plots in their ambitious new satellite township project. The draw-of-lots, a crucial step in the allocation process, took place at the SDA complex in Bemina. The event spanned three consecutive days, from June 1st to June 3rd, with the presence of the applicants.

To facilitate a fair and transparent allotment process, the SDA had invited online applications for residential plots from December 14, 2022 to February 15, 2023. The online applications were received through the J&K Housing Mission portal, which remained open for a period of two months. The overwhelming response saw a total of 2,786 applications submitted for the 428 available plots.

The SDA allotted the residential plots based on their sizes. A senior SDA official provided details of the allotment, revealing that 106 plots measuring 0.98 kanal each, 234 plots measuring 0.75 kanal, and 88 plots measuring 0.50 kanal were allocated. Among the various plot sizes, the SDA received 570 applications for the 106 one-kanal plots, 970 applications for the 234 plots measuring 15 marlas, and 1,246 applications for the 88 plots measuring 10 marlas.

To ensure transparency and impartiality, the District Administration Srinagar nominated three observers for the draw-of-lots process. The observers included the Sub Divisional Magistrate West Srinagar, Tehsildar South Srinagar, and Executive Magistrate Khanyar. Their presence reassured applicants and instilled confidence in the fairness of the process.
The new satellite township, known as the Srinagar Satellite Township, is planned to be established at Rakh Gund Aksha Bemina, spanning approximately 3,500 kanals of land. The first phase of development will focus on the pilot sector, covering an area of 975 kanals (49.2 hectares). This sector will offer a mix of flatted and plotted accommodations, including the recently allotted 428 residential plots and 1,610 apartments.

In the upcoming year, the SDA intends to offer the apartments to the general public, catering to the housing needs of various income groups. Positioned just eight kilometers from the City Centre, the Srinagar Satellite Township will be the first of its kind in Kashmir, designed to provide modern amenities and facilities, along with a diverse range of residential options for the public.

Additionally, adjacent to the township, two other significant projects are set to take shape. A Medicity on 94 acres and a new High Court Complex on 63 acres will further enhance the infrastructure and services in the area. The overall investment for these developments is estimated at Rs 379 crore, focusing on constructing essential infrastructure such as master plan roads, well-designed internal roads, efficient drainage systems, reliable power and water supply, and state-of-the-art communication facilities.

Regarding the living options in the Rakh Gund Aksha area, a senior SDA official emphasized that the residents will have a wide range of choices available to them. These options include serviced plots of various sizes, ready-to-move flats of different dimensions, builder floors, and building infrastructure for offices and commercial purposes.

The successful allotment of 428 residential plots marks a significant milestone in the SDA’s efforts to transform Srinagar into a modern and well-planned city. The development of the satellite township, along with the upcoming Medicity and High Court Complex, promises to enhance the living standards and opportunities for the residents of Srinagar.
