Parliament member and NC senior leader Ghulam Nabi Ratanpuri was injured in stone pelting on Wednesday when a group hurled stones on his cavalcade near Rinzipora area.

When contacted, Ratanpuri stated that a group of six people stopped his cavalcade near Rinzipora and hurled abuses on his workers. Ratanpuri maintained that he asked his workers to retreat and not to create any trouble in the area. “As we were retreating, the six men who stopped my vehicle continue to throw abuses at me. They also hurled few stones due to which I got injured,” Ratanpuri said, adding that he suffered foot injuries and was advised by the medicos to take rest for three days at least.

Ratanpuri accused that serious lapses with the deliberate attempt have been carried in his security and that as a normal procedure, two security vehicles used to guard his vehicle from the front and rear respectively. “Today the situation was different. I want provided any security and when I called the SSP security over the issue, he didn’t answer my repeated calls. I even shot several messages to his number but he replied none.  I can say that SSP security was responsible for my attack today.”

He added that he later phoned DGP and also the IG Kashmir to put in their notice about the inadequate security being provided to him. “They assured me that they will look into the matter.”

Ratanpuri demanded stern action against the SSP security, saying he must be suspended over grave issue.

Meanwhile, KNS correspondent informed that unknown people hurled stones at Ratanpuri’s cavalcade on Wednesday, thwarting his poll campaign in the area. Angry mob hurled stones on NC leader’s road show due to which the entire area witnessed chaos and disturbance. Ratanpuri was also injured after which he was shifte4d to the nearby hospital wherefrom he was shifted to Bones and Joint Hospital of Srinagar.

Unconfirmed reports informed that police in a bid to disperse the angry mob fired tear gas shells and also lathi charged the stone throwers. One person has also been detained after the incident. Pulwama police has also registered a case into the incident and has started a massive hunt for the people involved in Wednesday’s stone throwing incident.
