Various political, religious and social organizations of Shopian Thursday reiterated their protest and shutdown call for Friday, October 4.

The protest call has been given against civilian killings allegedly by CRPF personnel on September 7 and 11.

The locals of Shopian while talking to a local news agency, KNS, demanded relocation of Gagran CRPF camp and registration of FIR against the guilty. As per the protest programme, the people of Shopian have decided to assemble at the main Chowk after Friday prayers to stage a sit-in from 2 to 4 p.m.

Meanwhile, the people of Shopian has demanded that all the youth who have so far been detained  by the police in connection with the recent protests should be released at the earliest.

Bashir Ahmad Bhat, Deputy Commissioner Shopian, when contacted by KNS said, “Actually there is a cabinet direction to DGP for relocation of CRPF and we are on it. A portion of the Camp has already been shifted to District Police Lines.”

Asked if there would be any restrictions imposed by the district administration in view of the sit-in programme, Bhat said, “We had not imposed any restriction on last Friday and I don’t think it is required tomorrow as well.”
