Over the issuance of the passport to separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani, PDP President Mehbooba Mufti Wednesday said an ailing daughter must be allowed to meet his father and that the state government would not create any hurdle in the process.

Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani along with his wife and son on May 15 re-submitted online application form for the issuance of the passport so that he could meet his ailing daughter, presently staying in Jeddah.

The PDP president while talking to KNS pitched for the issuance of passport to Geelani saying no one should raise objections over any father meeting his ailing daughter.Mehbooba Mufti (14)

“There is no say of politics over this issue. A daughter who is in ailing condition should be given a chance to meet his father. I don’t see any issue if such a measure is taken,” Mehbooba said.

She maintained that though the final decision has to be taken by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) but at the same time the state government would not act as a hurdle in the process of the vital travel document to Syed Ali Geelani.

The PDP president, who is also a parliament member from South Kashmir, castigated Congress and other parties over raising what she termed ‘Hue and Cry’ over Geelani’s passport issue. She said that besides Geelani, other separatist leaders including Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik were issued passport by the UPA regime itself.

Mehbooba maintained that in the year 2007, the UPA government led by Congress issued passport to Geelani for visiting Pakistan and in 2011, Geelani was accorded the permission by the same UPA to undergo treatment in United States.

“Though at both the times, he (Geelani) didn’t travel but the issue of today is entirely different. Since Geelani’s ideology and stand hasn’t changed since 2007, the protest of Congress seems illogical at present,” Mehbooba maintained.

She remarked further that when even for the political activities the separatist leaders including Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik could be given the passport, why hindrance is being created for meeting an aged father with his ailing daughter. “As a daughter feel no one should stop a father from meeting his children,” PDP president said adding that India is a country wherein sanctity of relations is supreme and is celebrated.
