To encourage the people who follow traffic rules in Valley, department of  traffic police has initiated steps to reward the people following traffic rules.

During the ‘Traffic safety Week’, which was kicked on Tuesday,  the department is going to organize various quiz programmes, medical camps and other programmes to make people aware about traffic rules and to encourage them to follow the rules to avoid road accidents.

Apart from keeping vigil on defaulters of traffic rules, the department according to sources keeping vigil on the persons who follow to traffic rules to present them with gifts. The activity began on January 1 and will continue till January 7, official sources said. Inaugural function of the drive was held at Srinagar Banquet Hall in which officers, members of civil society and various students participated.

SP City Traffic Hassebur Rehman told KNS that slogan during this week is ‘Stay Alive, Don’t Drink and Drive’.

He said that during this week department would find persons following traffic rules and encourage them by giving away gifts, adding, “We gift them New Year cards and chocolate boxes”.

“We’re organizing quiz, medical camps and various other programmes while the motor cycle rally will be the main attraction of the event which will begin from Head office and will pass through various areas of Srinagar city to aware the people about need and importance of following traffic rules”, said Rehaman.

“Our main objective is to make aware the people to avoid road accidents”, he added.

Meanwhile a similar event was held at Pulwama in which SP Awantipora, DSP and ARTO Pulwama Wajahat Hussain along with various civil society menbers and other people participated.

The rally passed through the main chock of Pulwama to spread awareness among people about the traffic rules.

“We’re organizing these programmes to control road accidents. It needs cooperation of common people and those who drive vehicles”, said ARTO Pulwama. He said that most of the road accidents occur due to non compliance of traffic rules and it is only wise rules that avoid such accidents.

Pertinently, Traffic Safety Road week is being celebrated all over the country from 1st January to 7th of the month.
