SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police, in coordination with the civil administration, on Wednesday demolished multiple structures worth crores raised on state land along NH-44 in Sangam, targeting individuals allegedly involved in narcotics-related offences.
According to reports, the demolition drive focused on properties illegally constructed on state land and linked to persons booked under provisions of the NDPS Act. The operation was carried out jointly by police and civil authorities as part of ongoing efforts to curb the drug menace and enforce land regulations.
During the drive, several structures built on state land falling under Khasra No. 319 (min) of estate Sangam were razed. These structures, functioning as roadside eateries (dabbas/restaurants), were found to be associated with individuals involved in drug-related cases.
One such establishment, “Kashmir Restaurant (Dabba),” was owned by Gul Mohammad Mir and Bashir Ahmad Mir, both residents of Donipora Sangam. Gul Mohammad Mir is named in FIR No. 232/2011 under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act registered at Police Station Bijbehara. Bashir Ahmad Mir is involved in FIR No. 191/2020 under Section 8/20 and FIR No. 213/2024 under Sections 8/15 and 29 of the NDPS Act.
Another structure, “Taj Restaurant (Dabba),” constructed on the same Khasra number, belonged to Mohammad Maqbool Mir and his sons Aijaz Ahmad and Ghulam Mohi-ud-din Mir, all residents of Donipora Sangam. They are named in FIR No. 188/2021 under Sections 8/15 and 29 of the NDPS Act registered at Police Station Bijbehara.
Besides, a third structure identified as “MIR Restaurant,” located between the two establishments and belonging to their brother Amma Mir, was also demolished during the operation.
Officials stated that all structures were illegally erected on state land without authorization. The demolition was carried out in accordance with legal procedures.
Anantnag Police reiterated its zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and illegal encroachments, and appealed to the public to share information about narcotics-related activities and other unlawful practices.
