SRINAGAR: Students of the two higher secondary schools and the college in Sopore have resorted to sloganeering and stone pelting on police, reports said. The provocation that led to the tensions was not immediately known.

Reports said the tensions erupted soon after the schools resumed. As the sloganeering started, the police reached to the spot and has encircled the entire belt.

“We are outside these schools and the college and we are not permitting the students to move out and disrupt the life,” SP Sopore said. “They are throwing stones at us from inside and we are managing from outside.” The officer said he is unaware why the students resorted to protesting instead of classwork.

Wednesday witnessed stone protests at various places across Kashmir especially Budgam and parts of north Kashmir. Authorities have closed Budgam higher secondary school for the day.
