SRINAGAR: Senior IPS officer Sujit Kumar on Thursday assumed charge as Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir Zone, following a major reshuffle in the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
Kumar, a 2007-batch IPS officer, was transferred from the post of IGP Security, J&K, and appointed IGP Kashmir Zone as part of the reshuffle ordered by the Home Department on Thursday. Vivek Gupta was posted as IGP Security, J&K, replacing Kumar.
Kumar succeeds Vidhi Kumar Birdi, who has been posted as Inspector General in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on central deputation. Birdi had been serving as IGP Kashmir Zone since 2023.
He has previously served across all three ranges of the Kashmir Zone, including as head of the Central Kashmir Range.
The latest reshuffle saw several senior IPS and JKPS officers transferred and posted to new assignments across Jammu and Kashmir.
