The inspection was carried out while the Chief Minister was returning to Jammu from Rajouri. Officials briefed him on the status of the remaining works and informed him that the tunnel is nearing completion. They said ambulances and other emergency services are already being allowed to use the tunnel to facilitate critical movement.

Abdullah directed officials to expedite the remaining work while maintaining quality and safety standards.

Officials from the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) informed the Chief Minister that the 2.79-km tunnel, being constructed across the Kalidhar Range under Project Sampark, will reduce travel time on the route by around 40 to 45 minutes and improve connectivity in the region.

The Chief Minister had last reviewed the project during a visit on April 20, when he inspected excavation, structural works and the development of the approach roads.
