SRINAGAR: In response to the Supreme Court’s unanimous decision to uphold the Central government’s 2019 decision to revoke Article 370, Sajad Lone, the President of the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Conference, expressed disappointment.

Lone conveyed his dissatisfaction with the verdict, stating, “The Supreme Court verdict on Article 370 is disappointing. Justice yet again eludes the people of J and K.”

According to Lone, the legal obliteration of Article 370 does not diminish its symbolic importance, as he asserted, “Article 370 may have been legally obliterated but will always remain a part of our political aspirations.” He pointed out the court’s reluctance to address the issue of statehood, emphasizing that this stance safeguards the entire nation from potential misuse, based on legal precedents. However, Lone criticized the subtle endorsement of such misuse in the context of J & K, raising concerns about the equitable application of justice in the region.

Concluding his remarks, Lone expressed hope for a future awakening of justice from what he described as a “slumber of pretence.”
