SRINAGAR: A man was arrested following a firing incident at a function attended by National Conference president Farooq Abdullah and Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary in Jammu, police said on Wednesday.
The incident took place during a function at a marriage venue in the city. Authorities stated that the suspected shooter was promptly taken into custody and that an investigation is ongoing.
Deputy Chief Minister Choudhary confirmed that all the leaders present at the event were safe but expressed concern over the security arrangements. He described the incident as a serious lapse, saying, “We are all together. I, our leader Farooq Abdullah, and Nasir were together. Everyone is safe. One should ask the police how such a big lapse has happened. It happened at Royal Park in Greater Kailash. There was no one from the local police there. This is a very big security lapse,” while speaking to reporters.
Further details on the incident are awaited.
