SRINAGAR: Police arrested a suspected drug peddler and recovered 2.472 kilograms of crushed cannabis-like substance during a naka checking operation in the Audoora Rampathri area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Thursday, officials said.
The accused was identified as Ab Ahad Mochi, son of Gh Mohd Mochi, a resident of Audoora Rampathri.
Officials said a police party from Police Post Keegam was conducting routine naka checking when it noticed the accused moving under suspicious circumstances. He was subsequently apprehended along with a nylon bag, which was searched and found to contain the suspected contraband.
An FIR, numbered 198/2026, has been registered at Police Station Shopian under relevant sections of law, and investigation has been initiated to establish the source of the substance and ascertain its forward and backward linkages.
Police appealed to the public to share information about drug peddling or substance abuse with the nearest police station, assuring that the identities of informants would be kept confidential.
