A suspected militant fled from the premises of district hospital Kulgam on Friday, while police recovered a live hand grenade from the second story of the hospital during the search operation.

The eyewitnesses told Kashmir Life that an armed man entered the hospital building when he was asked to stop and prove his identity on the main road near the hospital. “There was a deployment since Friday morning in the area and men in uniform were busy frisking people,” they added.

“Suddenly we heard a sound of gunshot  which alerted everybody and the men in uniform took their positions,” the eyewitnesses said.

While confirming the incident, Police sources told KL that an unidentified armed man entered the district hospital building which was cordoned off by the reinforcement comprising of SOG Kulgam and 18th battalion of CRPF.

The search operation was started after evacuating the patients and others from the building during which a live hand grenade was recovered, sources said, adding the suspected militant has fled the scene after which the routine work started in the hospital though amid tension and chaos.

The police spokesman in Srinagar told KL that the search operation was still going on.
