Panic spread in Shopian District Court on Thursday morning when a pistol-borne youth shot at a cop and fled the spot.
The incident happened when a constable Mohammad Ashraf from Srinagar was busy frisking people at court entrance along with his two other colleagues.
In between, eye witnesses told Kashmir Life, a youth believed to be a suspected militant showed up at the gate and tried to snatch AK-47 from the cop. “But the cop didn’t let the rifle go,” the eye witnesses said. “As a scuffle of sorts ensued, other cops rushed towards the gate. Sensing the threat, the youth took out a pistol and shot the cop, Mohammad Ashraf and fled the spot.”
The injured cop was rushed to Srinagar’s SMHS hospital where his condition is said to be very critical.
Meanwhile, a police party has launched manhunt to nab the youth.
