SRINAGAR

Suspected militants on Friday evening attacked army bunker after they fired two rifle grenades towards it in apple town Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

A police official told GNS that two rifle grenades were fired towards a bunker of army’s 22 RR at Gangoo House in the town. However, the grenades were reportedly missed the intended target and were exploded outside the bunker with big bang, though no army personnel got injured.

Soon after the grenade blast, panic gripped the area.

A heavy posse of army, police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) immediately launched cordon and search operations, however no one was arrested.

Earlier in the day, Director General of Police (DGP) chaired a high level meeting of police and security agencies in the area.

Incidentally, the venue of meeting was adjacent to the place where the militants fired grenades.
