Panic gripped in South Kashmir’s Pulwama town when suspected militants fired upon a Jammu and Kashmir Bank Security Guard.

Police sources told CNS that two suspected militants appeared near ATM Booth in Shaheed Park and target the security guard of the said ATM.

“Suspected militants fired two bullets in his leg. He was hospitalized and is stable,” a police official said adding that initial investigation reveals that unknown gunmen had no intention to kill the security guard. “May be they (suspected militants) wanted to threaten him, but we are on job and are thoroughly investigating the matter to ascertain the facts,” he said and identified the victim as Muhammad Rajab Dar son of Ghulam Qadir resident of Dangarpora Pulwama.

Reports said that the gun shots created panic in the town. People ran for cover while shopkeepers downed their shutters. Top police officials including SP Pulwama visited the sub-district hospital and inquire about the condition of the patient. Police cordoned off the area and resorted to random searches, however, no arrest was made.
