Syed Mazag Andrabi rejoins HSA Advocates

SRINAGAR: Syed Mazag Abndrabi has rejoined HSA advocates as a Partner in the firm’s Disputes, Regulatory and Policy practice, Bar & Bench, a legal website reported.

“Mazag was with HSA till 2015, after which she practiced as an Independent Counsel,” the site said. “She was also appointed as Additional Advocate General for the State of Jammu & Kashmir.”

She has previously worked at Karanjawala & Co and at the Chambers of Ram Jethmalani.

“While Mazag has a broad based disputes practice and regularly appears before diverse courts and tribunals, her primary focus, however, continues to be the regulatory space with emphasis on the power sector and environmental law,” the report added.

“She has represented clients before diverse State Electricity Commissions, APTEL, CERC, and the National Green Tribunal, and also High Courts and the Supreme Court,” HSA Advocates said in a statement which announced her return.

Mazag is daughter of Syed Farooq Andrabi, PDP lawmaker from Dooru, who is currently Minister of state for Haj and Auqaf. She and Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti are cousins. Earlier on November 27, 2015, Ms Mazag was appointed additional advocate general of the state.

It was not immediately known if she has left her position in the state government to rejoin HSA. However, an official in state law ministry said she has no bar in joining any legal firm while being state’s counsel. “Her position is not an employment,” the official said. He said Ms Mazag is posted in Delhi as Deputy Advocate General and is handling various cases of the state government.

HSA (Himant Sahai Associates) Advocates is one of India’s major law firms.
