SRINAGAR: Syed Nazir Ahmad Qadri, a former Executive Magistrate and respected public figure, passed away this afternoon after a brief illness. He was in his late seventies.

A resident of Umar Colony A, Mughal Road, Lal Bazar, Qadri was originally from Nowhatta in Srinagar’s old city. Throughout his career in the Revenue Department, he served in various capacities before retiring as an Executive Magistrate.
Family members said his funeral prayers will be offered after Magrib at his ancestral graveyard in Jabgaripora, Nowhatta.
Known for his approachable nature and people-friendly outlook, Qadri commanded deep respect within his community and beyond. Social and religious organisations have expressed sorrow at his demise and extended condolences to the bereaved family.
He is survived by two sons and two daughters, all settled. One of his sons, Dr Shakeel Ul Rehman Qadri, is a well-known physician in Kashmir. The Nimaz-e-Jinaza is expected after Maghrib prayers.
