Minister for Medical Education, Youth Services & Sports, Taj Mohi ud din inaugurated the 4th National Vovinam Championship-2013 at Indoor Stadium today.

In this newly introduced discipline, 21 States are participating in the three day event which is scheduled to conclude on May 20, 2013.

Speaking on the occasion, Taj said government is contemplating a comprehensive plan of strengthening sports infrastructure in the state. He said government plans to extend sports activities to all the Districts so that more and more youth join them. He said sports infrastructure in the state is being given a re look and more facilities are being added to the already existing sports infrastructure.

Vovinam is a Vietnamese martial art which got inducted into indoor Asian games of 2009 held at Hanoi, Vietnam in which India bagged one gold, one silver and three bronze medals.

Later, the game was introduced in the sea games in Indonesia in 2011 and subsequently this year Myanmar included Vovinam into their sports curriculum.

The sports discipline would be included as a regular discipline in the Asian games of 2019 which incidentally would also be held in Hanoi, Vietnam.

President All India Vovinam Federation, Vishnu Sahai and President, J&K Vovinam Federation, GN Tantray were present on the occasion.
