Tamil Nadu CM Says JKNC-Congress Alliance Got Mandate for Restoring Jammu Kashmir Dignity

SRINAGAR: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Wednesday hailed the victory of the Jammu & Kashmir National Conference (JKNC)-Congress alliance in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, stating that the result was a mandate for restoring the dignity and statehood of the region. Stalin emphasised that this was a step towards fulfilling the aspirations of the people, which the Union BJP Government had “unjustly” stripped away through the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.

In a message shared via social media, Stalin congratulated the alliance and the people of Jammu and Kashmir on what he described as a “stupendous” victory. He further reflected on the broader significance of the win, declaring it as “more than just a win for INDIA and democracy.”

“This moment marks the beginning of a just and inclusive future that honours the hopes of every Kashmiri,” the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister said, underscoring the importance of the result for the democratic process in Jammu and Kashmir and the fight against what he called oppressive policies imposed by the BJP-led Union Government.

Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin also extended his congratulations to the alliance, highlighting the people’s support for democratic forces in the region. In a separate social media post, Udhayanidhi Stalin remarked on the significance of the election outcome, noting that it represented a decisive stand by the people of Jammu and Kashmir against “fascist” elements attempting to undermine the region’s statehood.

“This significant mandate demonstrates that the people of Jammu and Kashmir support democratic forces. This remarkable win has effectively halted the intentions of fascists seeking to undermine the statehood of J&K. I hope the aspirations of J&K people will be fulfilled,” Udhayanidhi Stalin wrote.

The JKNC-Congress alliance’s victory in Jammu and Kashmir is seen as a major political development, coming at a time when the region has been at the centre of intense political and constitutional debates following the revocation of its special status. The results are being interpreted as a public rebuke of the BJP’s policies in Jammu and Kashmir and a call for restoring statehood and dignity to the people of the region.

This outcome has sparked reactions across the political spectrum, with various leaders and commentators expressing their views on what it means for the future of Jammu and Kashmir and Indian democracy.
