SRINAGAR: The only work on the proposed Loran – Tangmarg road done in last two years is six kilometers of earthwork, NC MLC Dr Shehnaz Ganai, who visited the area has said. She spent the day at Sib, the village that is base camp for construction of the road.

The proposed 72 kms long road is supposed to pass through Jamia Wali Gali, and Basam Gali to Tangmarg. It has already received forest clearance for 15 kms that passes through forests. The road moves through 30 kms of forests of which half has already got a clearance. The road is to be implemented by two BRO agencies – 30 kms from loran side by Sampark and rest by Beacon.

But Ganai was told by the concerned that no huge progress was made on the road because it lacks resources. The road has been taken up under Border Area Development Programme (BADP). Its foundation stone was laid in November 2015. Now the lawmaker wants the road be shifted to Bharat Mala, a programme that has enough resources.

BRO Commandant Udhay Singh informed the MLC that land acquisition for 4.5 kms of the land has been completed. However she insisted that compensation has not been disbursed.
