Police sources told the Jammu newspaper Daily Excelsior that the Rehari teenager had left her home on June 30 to appear for an examination at Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Bakshi Nagar, but failed to return. After searching for her at the homes of relatives and acquaintances, her family lodged a missing complaint at Police Station Bakshi Nagar on July 3.

Police registered FIR No. 90/2026 under the relevant provisions of law and constituted a special team to trace the missing girl. Using a combination of human intelligence and technical surveillance, the team tracked her to Amritsar on July 6 and rescued her on July 8.

Officials said the girl had allegedly been deceived and forced into a prostitution racket operating in Amritsar. Three persons have been arrested in connection with the case, including an individual personally known to the victim. Further investigation is in progress.

The rescue came a day after Srinagar Police announced the recovery of three minor girls from Amritsar in a separate case. The girls had been traced within 72 hours of their disappearance in a coordinated operation carried out with the assistance of Punjab Police.

The Srinagar Police said the recovery was made in connection with FIR No 63/2026 registered under Section 137(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Police Station Ram Munshi Bagh. The police, however, did not disclose how the three minors had reached Amritsar.
