SRINAGAR: A boy died after drowning while bathing in Nigeen Lake near the Nigeen Club area of Srinagar on Monday afternoon, officials said.
Officials said a rescue team comprising SDRF Nigeen and other personnel launched an operation soon after receiving information about the incident.
The boy was recovered from the water and taken to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Hazratbal (Habbak), where doctors declared him brought dead.
The deceased was identified as Nazil Shakeel Bhat, son of Shakeel Ahmad Bhat, a resident of the Nowhatta area of Srinagar.
Officials said cognisance of the incident has been taken.
The incident comes a day after multiple drowning cases were reported across the Valley, in which several people lost their lives, while a Srinagar resident who drowned in the Lidder River in Pahalgam remains untraced despite ongoing search operations.
