Minimum temperatures continued their free fall in the Kashmir Valley on Thursday due to clear overnight sky, a Met official said.

“The minimum temperatures dropped further across Jammu and Kashmir today due to clear night sky. These temperatures are likely to drop further as the weather is likely to remain dry till January 1,” he said.

Leh town of Ladakh region recorded the lowest minimum temperature at minus 18.0 degrees Celsius while Pahalgam at minus 12.7 was the coldest in the valley followed by Gulmarg at minus 11.2.

Srinagar recorded the lowest night temperature of the season so far as the minimum temperature recorded in the city was minus 5.0 degrees Celsius, an official of the Meteorological Department said.

Kupwara township of north Kashmir recorded a low of minus 5.6  degrees Celsius. Kokernag, in south Kashmir, recorded minus 6.9 degrees Celsius while Qazigund registered minus 9.8, he said.

In the Jammu region, Jammu city recorded 6.4 degrees Celsius, Katra recorded 4.2, Banihal 2.2, Batote recorded minus 0.2 and Bhaderwah minus 2.7 as the night’s lowest temperatures.
