Ten Alleged Drug Peddlers Arrested in Anantnag

   

SRINAGAR: Police have arrested ten alleged drug peddlers in separate operations across south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, seizing cannabis, charas and suspected heroin, officials said.

The arrests followed intensified naka checking, patrolling and surveillance across the district, with separate cases registered at the respective police stations under relevant sections of law. Further investigations are under way.

During a checkpoint operation at Lessu, a police team from Larnoo police station arrested Mohd Iqbal Dangroo, son of Mohd Rajab Dangroo, a resident of Lessu Branard. Police said approximately 2.393 kg of cannabis was recovered from a bag in his possession.

In two separate incidents in the Arwani area, a team from Bijbehara police station apprehended Mukhtar Ali, son of Manzoor Ahmad, and Dolal Ali, son of Bahadur Din. Both are residents of West Bengal, and charas was recovered from their possession, police said.

At Hatigam Crossing, personnel from Srigufwara police station arrested Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat, son of Gh. Hassan Bhat, a resident of Sirhama. A search allegedly yielded around 55 grams of charas and 86 grams of charas powder.

In another operation near Krad Bridge, a team from Uttersoo police station apprehended Mohd Arif Magray, son of Mohd Akbar, a resident of Deethu Shangus, and recovered 15 grams of a charas-like substance, according to police.

At the footbridge in Bumzoo, Mattan police arrested Mohammad Ashraf Ganaie, son of Mohammad Ramzan Ganaie, a resident of Gund Bagh, Seer Hamdan. Police said approximately 90.2 grams of charas was seized from him.

Meanwhile, personnel from Police Post Dialgam apprehended Fayaz Ahmad Magray, son of Gh. Rasool Magray, a resident of Donipawa, Anantnag, at a checkpoint in Bondialgam. Around eight grams of a charas-like substance was allegedly recovered from his possession.

In a separate operation at Shehlipora Crossing, police intercepted an Innova bearing registration number JK02AN-3114, driven by Irshad Ahmad Ganaie, son of Gh. Rasool Ganaie, a resident of Shehlipora. During the vehicle’s search, police recovered approximately 8.4 grams of a heroin-like substance. The driver was arrested and the vehicle seized.

Police also apprehended Feroze Ahmad Sofi, son of Gh. Hassan Sofi, a resident of Akingam, Achabal, during patrolling in the area. Around 18.4 grams of a charas-like substance was allegedly recovered during his search.

In the Cheerpora area, a team from Uttersoo police station arrested Aijaz Ahmad Lone, son of Mohd Hussan Lone, a resident of Cheerpora. Police said approximately 12 grams of charas was recovered from a polythene bag in his possession.

Police said all ten accused had been arrested and investigations into the cases had been initiated.

Reiterating its commitment to combating drug trafficking, police urged the public to share credible information about drug-related activities and cooperate in efforts to curb substance abuse and trafficking.
