Protests erupted in a village of Kupwara district, on Sunday against alleged rape of a girl by a Territorial Army man. The protesters earlier caught hold of the accused and handed him over to police.
Angry mob of the village Marhama, some six Kms from Trehgam in district Kupwara Satrurday evening caught hold of a territorial army man namely Showkat Ahmad Malik and beat him to pulp for allegedly raping of a village girl.
The people later handed him over to police. Police sources confirmed the incident and said that Showkat is in the custody of Trehgam police.
Showkat is a resident of Trehgam and he belongs to 160th Battalion of the Territorial Army.
Sources said that a case under FIR No 19/2014 under section 458, 376 RPC has been registered against Showkat and the investigated has been started.
