SRINAGAR: Suspected rebels killed an army man on Thursday. He was identified as Manzoor Ahmad Beigh son of Abdul Salam Beigh, a resident of  Sadoora village in Anantnag.

Officials said the soldier was evacuated to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Reports said that Beig was posted with Rashtriya Rifles-34 which is deployed in Shopian. Possibly, he was on leave to celebrate Eid with his family where he was shot dead.

Police said he was attacked by militants and got critical injuries following which he was taken to the hospital where he died.  “Police is investigating the circumstances of this terror crime,” the spokesman said.

Army and police have moved into the Sadoora belt. The action, if any, was not immediately known. Reports in media said Beig was an Ikhwan recruit who was employed by the army.

Meanwhile, Governor Satya Pal Malik has expressed grief over the loss of Lance Naik Nasir Ahmed Bhatt, belonging toJammu and Kashmir Light Infantry regiment and resident of Anantnag, in an unfortunate road accident in Assam. Governor has prayed for peace to the departed soul and strength to the bereaved family in its hour of grief.
