No evening protests were held in any part of the valley on Monday evening as called by the “Mutahida Majlis Mashawrat” (MMM). The separatist amalgam had appealed the people to protest from Nimaz-e-Magrib.

MMM, on Sunday released a week long protest calendar which ‘guided’ people to continue their protests to press for the return of the mortal remains of Afzal Guru. MMM, was formed for the aim to chalk out a “joint strategy” against the Afzal Guru hanging issue and spearhead an agitation to press for the body of parliament attack convict.

MMM, has issued two protest calendars till date. It has called for a complete shutdown on Wednesday. Afzal Guru was hanged and buried in Tihar jail Delhi on February 9.

Union home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde Monday evening ruled out the return of Afzal’s body. The announcement is setback to both unionists and separatists.

After hanging of Afzal on February 09 in Delhi Tihar jail, people cutting across the party lines are demanding  his body for proper burial. The list of advocates of the return of the body even included, chief Minister of state, Omar Abdullah.
